The Pavel Chekov Site welcomes Anton Yelchin to the fold of Chekov fandom!

Anton Yelchin, who plays Pavel Chekov in the upcoming Star Trek movie, was born on March 11, 1989 in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Russia but was brought over to the United States when 6 months old. His parents, Viktor and Irina, were professional figure skaters who had qualified for the 1972 Olympics; however, because they were Jewish, the Soviet authorities did not allow them to participate. Hence, they emigrated to the United States and settled in Southern California where Anton grew up. Both his parents are still involved in figure skating, his father being a coach and his mother being a choreographer.

From an early age, Anton showed interest in acting and began acting lessons at the age of 8. His first acting job was appearing for a few seconds in a Chuck E. Cheese commercial, where he laughed at another child whose pants had fallen the age of 10, he landed his first real acting role on television, being cast in ER in the role of Robbie Edelstein, in the episode “Be Still My Heart”. At the age of 11, he was cast in the starring role of Bobby Garfield in the movie Hearts in Atlantis (2001) opposite Anthony Hopkins. This resulted in him winning the Young Artist Award for the Best Performance in a Feature Film as Leading Young Actor the following year. He also starred in House of D with David Duchovny and Robin Williams in 2004, and won the "Breakthrough of the Year" award in 2005.
Since then, there were many more roles, in more than 20 feature films and television productions, including Along Came a Spider (2001), House of D (2004), Delivering Milo (2001), Alpha Dog (2006), and Charlie Bartlett (2007). He’s also appeared in episodes of The Practice, and a memorable role in Curb Your Enthusiasm, where played Larry David’s nephew who wouldn’t reveal the secret to his magic trick.
Anton is an only child whose hobbies include chess playing, reading, playing the piano, and playing the guitar. As of autumn 2007, he has been enrolled at University of Southern California (USC) with the objective of earning a degree in Critical Studies, with the eventual goal of becoming a director. Anton has expressed that he is not looking for fame or to become an overnight sensation. He is just looking for experience and hoping for a long acting career. ~Diane Doyle
In 2008 he had starring roles in You and I, the Middle of Nowhere, and New York, I Love You and has starring roles in the upcoming feature films Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac, and the blockbusters Star Trek and Terminator Salvation.
